About Maxim Larrivée
In spring 2022, Maxim Larrivée successfully oversaw the opening of the new Insectarium. With his colleagues from the Espace pour la vie management, he collaborates on developing strategies to reconnect humans with nature and encourage its preservation. The entomologist is interested in tools that document insect biodiversity. He combines several innovative approaches to biodiversity monitoring, including citizen science and artificial intelligence. Maxim Larrivée founded and co-directs eButterfly, a citizen science program that documents the global distribution and diversity of butterflies, as well as Mission Monarch, which focuses on identifying monarch butterfly breeding areas in Canada. He also established an insect monitoring network in the Quebec Far North in collaboration with the Nunavik regional government, the Nunavik Sentinels project. Youth from Inuit and Cree communities are trained and hired there to monitor pollinating insects around their communities.
