SEMINAR-CONFERENCE

What’s in a name?
Creativity from the point of view of our perception of time

Miguel Aubouy

Consultant

Date: Wednesday, December 6th, 2017, from 12:15pm to 2:00pm
Lieu: Room Louis-Laberge (1st floor, red section), HEC Montréal

Summary: The commonly accepted definition of creativity (in terms of originality) suffers from numerous inconsistencies that are practical as well as philosophical. In this seminar, we will develop an analysis of creativity from the point of view of our perception of time. This analysis will lead us to propose an alternative definition of the creative faculty. We will see in particular how this alternative definition suggests the existence of a second form of creativity, qualitatively different from that which is recognized in our societies.

Biography: Miguel Aubouy started his professional career in the field of fundamental physics. He then focused on technological innovation.
Between 2002 and 2014, he helped build and animate a “skunk work” within the R&D department at CEA: a small group made up of atypical people working with unconventional methods on disruptive industrial projects. He has helped around fifty French and international companies create a product that could upset the economic landscape in their field of activity. This experience has led him to develop a unique expertise on the process of industrial innovation, from the observation of uses upstream to the prototype downstream. Since 2014, he works as a consultant for companies.
